Skunk spray
Well, after I got home from a long twelve hour day, I let my dog out to pee and she got sprayed by a skunk. This is the first time I've ever had to deal with this, and I'm not exactly sure what to do.

I already bathed her in the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and soap mixture. Is there anything else I should/can do? Can anyone recommend anything that will get rid of the smell? Also, she got sprayed in the face and I'm concerned about her eyes. Is there any special thing I should be doing to rinse her eyes?-- I obviously kept the hydrogen peroxide mixture away from her eyes, so the area hasn't really been cleaned much.

She still stinks and the house is barely tolerable, and I'd rather not have it linger for a month like some people have hinted at in other forums. :( Thanks for any help.

Years ago when my dog was sprayed someone suggested pure vanilla extract.. and it seemed to work. We rubbed some on the dog's snouth which was where the smell was the strongest. We also has a couple of small dishes laying around on the counters filled with extract and it helped rid [or cover up] the house of the smell.

Bathing your dog in tomato juice or vinegar will get rid of the smell. Put it on straight, rub it in good, and then just rinse off whichever one you choose.

When my Adam got sprayed a few years ago, I immediately wiped him down with old rags to get rid of the scent on the surface of his fur. (Then bagged the towels and put them in the garbage.) Then I used a product I bought at the pet store: Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover. It worked fairly well, but Adam did not like the stuff.

Tomato juice works good, but the last time one of my puppies got sprayed she went swimming for a while in our pool and the smell went away. I would recommend a lake or pool if you're near one. It will work.
